LCG, June 9, 2026--EDP Renewables North America LLC (EDPR NA) and Salt River Project (SRP), a not for-profit public power utility serving central Arizona, today announced the completion of the Flatland Energy Storage project, located in Coolidge, Arizona. The new battery energy storage system (BESS) has a generating capacity of 200 MW and can provide 800 MWh of storage capacity to store energy during times of surplus supply and deliver power to customers when needed to meet peak periods of customer demand.

SRP and EDP Renewables Announce Completion of 800 MWh Flatland Energy Storage Project in Arizona
LCG, June 9, 2026--EDP Renewables North America LLC (EDPR NA) and Salt River Project (SRP), a not for-profit public power utility serving central Arizona, today announced the completion of the Flatland Energy Storage project, located in Coolidge, Arizona. The new battery energy storage system (BESS) has a generating capacity of 200 MW and can provide 800 MWh of storage capacity to store energy during times of surplus supply and deliver power to customers when needed to meet peak periods of customer demand.
The Flatland Energy Storage project is the largest BESS within the EDPR NA's portfolio. Located in Pinal County, Flatland Energy Storage will improve grid flexibility and reliability. The storage capacity will reduce the need to start and stop power generation facilities as demand fluctuates and reduce strain on generators and the grid. The utility-scale battery project is expected to provide long-term economic benefits.
The Associate General Manager and Chief Power System Executive at SRP stated, "Flatland Energy Storage is part of SRP's all-of-the above approach to providing reliable, affordable and sustainable power to our customers. SRP will continue to invest in battery energy storage resources as part of its growing resource portfolio."
The CEO of EDP Renewables North America said, "Energy storage plays a critical role in maintaining a reliable and resilient electric grid, especially as demand continues to grow. Projects like Flatland Energy Storage ensure power is available when it's needed most, while also delivering meaningful, long-term benefits to the communities that host them."
According to EDPR NA, the Flatland Energy Storage project represents over $20 million in local and regional economic impact over its lifetime. The Mayor of the City of Coolidge said, "Flatland Energy Storage is a welcome investment in the City of Coolidge, strengthening essential services and supporting our community's continued growth."
EDPR NA developed and operates approximately 600 MW of gross operating capacity across solar and storage facilities in Arizona, including Sun Streams Solar (158 MW), Brittlebush Solar (200 MW), and Table Top Solar & Energy Storage (96 MW solar and 96 MW BESS).
The President and CEO of Pinal Partnership said, "Meeting Arizona's growing energy demand is critical to sustaining economic development and attracting future large-scale investment to our region.
