LCG, October 6, 2026--Google and Constellation Energy today announced a long-term strategic clean energy collaboration to bring 890 MW of new, reliable, carbon-free nuclear capacity onto the PJM Interconnection grid to meet growing demand and increase grid reliability. LCG, October 5, 2026--The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Dominance Financing (EDF) today announced a conditional loan commitment of up to $4.2 billion to finance nuclear uprates and modernization across Vistra’s nuclear fleet in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The projects are expected to preserve nearly 4 GW of carbon-free, baseload power and add 433 MW of new nuclear capacity that will support the growing electricity demand across the PJM region.

Calpine Announces Completion of Expansion Project at The Geysers Geothermal Complex
LCG, June 10, 2026--Calpine, a business unit of Constellation, announced early this week the completion of a 25 MW expansion project at The Geysers geothermal complex located in Sonoma County, California. The addition builds on Calpine's continued investments in The Geysers to support California's renewable energy goals and to provide reliable, around-the-clock renewable power as the demand for clean electricity continues to grow.
Of the 25 MW expansion project, 18 MW will be directed to Clean Power Alliance (CPA), which serves customers located across Southern California, and 7 MW (which was brought online last year) is being directed to MCE to support Bay Area residents and businesses.
The senior vice president of Calpine's geothermal region stated, "As California's electricity demand continues to grow, investments in reliable, around-the-clock renewable energy are more important than ever. The Geysers is one of the nation's most important geothermal resources, and this expansion reflects our commitment to strengthening grid reliability while advancing California's clean energy goals."
Clean Power Alliance's chief operating officer said, "Clean Power Alliance is committed to delivering dependable clean energy to our customers, and geothermal power plays an important role in providing around-the-clock renewable electricity. Partnerships like this strengthen California's clean energy future while supporting a more resilient and sustainable grid."
The Geysers is one of the world's largest and most productive geothermal energy sites and has operated for over 65 years. Power is generated by tapping natural steam reservoirs deep beneath the earth's surface, with an ability to reliably generate electricity around the clock as a baseload resource. Calpine, the largest geothermal power producer in the U.S., owns and operates 13 geothermal plants within The Geysers 45-square-mile complex that represent about 725 MW of electrical generation capacity.
To further enhance the value of The Geysers complex, Calpine added two battery energy storage systems (BESS) on repurposed geothermal power plant sites in 2024. The Bear Canyon Energy Storage is a 13-MW BESS, and the West Ford Flat Energy Storage is a 25-MW BESS. Together, these storage projects comprise 42 Tesla Megapacks.
