LCG, September 3, 2026--Fervo Energy earlier this week announced a 396-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google to enable the continued development of the Cape Station enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) GeoCluster, located in southwest Utah. Under the agreement, Google will purchase carbon-free, 24/7 electricity designed to serve as a foundational building block for a potential data center in Utah. Google Sign 396 MW PPA with Fervo Energy for Geothermal Power
LCG, September 3, 2026--Fervo Energy earlier this week announced a 396-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google to enable the continued development of the Cape Station enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) GeoCluster, located in southwest Utah. Under the agreement, Google will purchase carbon-free, 24/7 electricity designed to serve as a foundational building block for a potential data center in Utah. The facility is expected to come online in 2028.
Fervo will, as part of the PPA, offer Google an option to expand its offtake by approximately 600 MW, for a total of nearly 1 GW, by June 2030. According to the announcement, final data center plans remain subject to a variety of factors including engineering feasibility, state and local approvals, and commercial conditions.
The Cape Station is located in Beaver County, Utah, approximately 12 miles northeast of Milford. The site is near existing transmission infrastructure and the Blundell Geothermal Power Plant. The site is also adjacent to the Department of Energy’s Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy. Fervo sees high value in the site, as it provides (i) Fervo with robust data on reservoir characteristics and (ii) access to robust supply chains required for predictable development due to the oil and gas and industrial development in Utah.

Google's Director of Advanced Energy Technologies said, "The next chapter of advanced power generation technology is being written in Utah. This project will drive meaningful economic benefit to the local community and help catalyze long-term energy cost reductions by making enhanced geothermal more affordable and accessible."
The Fervo-Google partnership started with Project Red, Fervo’s commercial pilot project in Nevada that came online in 2023 and delivers electricity to the local grid, including Google’s data centers in Nevada. After Project Red, Fervo signed a 115 MW PPA with Google and NV Energy in June 2024 that helped create the Clean Transition Tariff that is designed to allow Google to use more geothermal energy onto the Nevada grid while insulating everyday customers from project costs.
The new PPA is part of the ongoing expansion of Cape Station beyond its initial 100 MW phase, as Fervo acts to scale up operations and drives down development costs through standardized, repeatable GeoBlock execution. By pairing a repeatable, flexible commercial framework with a modular, scalable power solution, Fervo believes its GeoCluster approach for data center development will enable flexible power delivery pathways under SB132 in Utah, which, subject to regulatory approvals, may provide Fervo and Google with optionality on direct-to-load contracting.
