LCG, May 8, 2025--The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Board of Directors approved SPP’s proposed Expedited Resource Adequacy Study (ERAS) at its May 6 meeting. SPP developed the new ERAS in collaboration with its stakeholders in response to the growing need to add new generating resources before the region’s generating capacity is outpaced by its electricity demands. ERAS is intended to be a one-time, expedited study process designed to significantly accelerate the addition of new power generation facilities to the grid and address concerns about the near term ability to maintain the affordable and reliable electric service that consumers expect.

LCG, May 7, 2025--EDP Renewables North America LLC (EDPR NA) announced yesterday the inauguration of its Scarlet II Solar Energy Park (Scarlet II) in Fresno County, California. This phase of the solar plus energy storage project includes 200 MW of solar capacity, plus a co-located 150 MW/600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The initial phase of the project, Scarlet I, which provides 200 MW of solar and 40 MW/160 MWh of BESS, achieved commercial operations in July 2024.

Calpine Plans 890 Megawatt Tennessee Plant
LCG, July 20, 2000--Calpine corp. said yesterday it will develop, build and own a $430 million, 890 megawatt natural gas-fired, combined cycle power plant in Haywood County, Tenn. When completed in mid-2004, the facility will interconnect with the Tennessee Valley Authority system.Bob Alff, a Calpine senior vice president, said "We are very pleased to announce our first Calpinedevelopment project in the State of Tennessee The Haywood Energy Center is ideally located relative to high-capacity natural gas and electric transmission interconnections, and has excellent access to multiple load centers throughout the dynamic southeastern power market."The new plant will produce around 770 megawatts and have the capability to generate an additional 120 megawatts during periods of peak demand. It will employ Siemens-Westinghouse combustion turbines in a three-on-one combined cycle configuration and will be equipped with advanced emissions control systems.John Sharpe, Haywood County Executive, welcomed Calpine to Hatchie River country. "This type of project represents an excellent economic development opportunity for our region, and we are verypleased that Calpine has chosen to do business here. We extend them a warm welcome and lookforward to a successful relationship."Calpine has three other projects under development that will hook up to TVAs system, one in Lowndes County, Miss., and two in Morgan County, Ala. Including Haywood, Calpine's combined TVA-area development effort represents more than 2,900 megawatts of generating capacity.
