LCG, June 18, 2025--The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced late today a new pilot program to expedite the testing of advanced nuclear reactor designs under DOE authority outside of the national laboratories. The new pilot program is intended to unlock private funding and provide a fast track to commercial licensing.

LCG, June 17, 2025--X-energy Reactor Company, LLC (X-energy) announced yesterday that it has received key updates from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regarding the construction permit application for the initial deployment of the Xe-100 advanced reactor at a Texas Gulf Coast site. The NRC published an 18-month review timeline for the project, located in Seadrift, Texas, and will concurrently proceed with its environmental assessment. The NRC cited the completeness and quality of the application, as well as the effectiveness of pre-application engagements for the 18-month timeline.

Three More Firms Join Midwest ISO
LCG, July 31, 2000--The Midwest Independent System Operator said on Friday that its board had approved three new applications for membership. The ISO now has 16 transmission-owning members and 23 members who do not own transmission facilities.Two transmission owners joining the Midwest ISO are Wisconsin Public Service Resources Corp. and American Transmission Co. A non-transmission owner, Calpine Corp. also signed up with the agency.American Transmission Co. was formed earlier this year after the Wisconsin state legislaturepassed a law requiring the state's utilities to turn over their transmission assets to an ISO. The lawwas designed to ensure that access to the state's electric transmission system would remainindependent of individual utility control as the industry embraces deregulation.Wisconsin Public Service Resources is the parent holding company for Wisconsin Public Service, a local utility. Calpine is a San Jose, Calif.-based independent power producer with operations in 27 states and Canada.The Midwest ISO claims to be the nation's largest independent transmission system operator. It says that when it becomes fully operational next year utilities with more than 52,000 miles of transmission lines, 78,000 megawatts of electric generation, and about $8 billion in installed assets will be participating in the ISO.
