Calpine and ExxonMobil Sign CO2 Transportation and Storage Agreement for CCS Project in Texas

LCG, April 24, 2025--Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) announced yesterday an agreement with Calpine Corporation (Calpine) to transport and permanently store up to 2 million metric tons per annum (MTA) of CO2 from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center, a natural gas-fired facility located near Houston, Texas. Con Edison Faces State Challenge over Electric Rates

LCG, Aug. 24, 2000--New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer said in a brief statement this morning that he has filed an action against Consolidated Edison Inc. challenging the rates charged by its utility subsidiary for electricity this summer.

Alleging that Consolidated Edison Co. of New Yorks electricity prices this summer are about 30 percent higher than they were last summer, Spitzer said he wants to force the utility to roll back prices to last years level.

Con Edison has admitted that some $22 million of the extra money it has collected has been spent on replacement power for that lost by the shutdown in February of its Indian Point 2 nuclear power plant. Last week, the utility filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York seeking an injunction against enforcement of a law that would prevent recovery from ratepayers of the $22 million.

Spitzers statement did not disclose the nature of his "action" or the venue in which it was filed. Those and other details will be provided at a news conference in his New York City office, the statement said.
