520 Megawatt Plant Planned for Central Virginia

LCG, Oct. 11, 2000--Independent electric generator Competitive Power Ventures Inc. said yesterday it plans to build a 520 megawatt natural gas-fired, combined-cycle power plant in central Virginia, about 25 miles southeast of Charlottesville.

The company said it has obtained an option to purchase 393 acres in Fluvanna County, Va. Both natural gas and electric transmission lines cross the property, 15 acres of which will be used for the new merchant plant.

The company said permitting for the CPV Cunningham Creek Project would take between 12 and 18 months. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2002 with commercial operations expected to begin by the summer of 2004.

Chris Broemmelsiek, project director for Cunningham Creek, said "We have been carefully studying all aspects of this project since early this year, and we believe that we've selected a site and project design that will give the Commonwealth (of Virginia) its most environment friendly power plant ever."
