LCG, Oct. 13, 2000--Reliant Energy Inc. said in a news release yesterday that an unregulated subsidiary has signed a four year contract worth more than $300 million to supply electricity to five distribution cooperatives in Northeast Texas.

Under the contract, Reliant Energy Wholesale Group will begin next May to supply power to Rayburn Country Electric Cooperative, which is headquartered in Rockwall, Texas, just east of Dallas. The local cooperatives are Fannin County Electric Cooperative, FEC Electric Cooperative, Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative, Lamar County Electric Cooperative, and Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative.

Joe Bob Perkins, president and chief operating officer of the Reliant unit, said "This is a customized, 'full-requirements' package, which includes providing Rayburn more than 450megawatts of firm power, ancillary, and energy services including risk-management products."
