LCG, April 13, 2026--The EIA today released an "In-brief Analysis" of U.S. coal-fired generating capacity retirements in 2025. A highlight of the analysis is that, during 2025, the electric power sector retired 2.6 GW of coal-fired generating capacity at four power plants, which is (i) the least since 2010 and (ii) 5.9 GW less than the planned retirement of 8.5 GW at the beginning of 2025.

LCG, April 10, 2026--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced yesterday a rule proposing several revisions to the federal regulations governing the disposal of coal combustion residuals (CCR) and the beneficial use of CCR. The EPA designed the rule to encourage resource recovery, allow for site-specific considerations in permitting, and provide regulatory relief while continuing to protect human health and the environment. The EPA will be accepting comments on the rule for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register, and it will also hold an online public hearing on the rule.

Reliant in 4-year Power Supply Deal with Co-ops
LCG, Oct. 13, 2000--Reliant Energy Inc. said in a news release yesterday that an unregulated subsidiary has signed a four year contract worth more than $300 million to supply electricity to five distribution cooperatives in Northeast Texas.Under the contract, Reliant Energy Wholesale Group will begin next May to supply power to Rayburn Country Electric Cooperative, which is headquartered in Rockwall, Texas, just east of Dallas. John Kirkland, a spokesman for the co-op, said Reliant would replace Constellation Energy Group Inc. as supplier.The Rayburn Country co-op will in turn resell the electricity and services to its five members, distribution co-ops serving more than 120,000 customers in 16 small Texas counties. The local cooperatives are Fannin County Electric Cooperative, FEC Electric Cooperative, Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative, Lamar County Electric Cooperative, and Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative.Joe Bob Perkins, president and chief operating officer of the Reliant unit, said "This is a customized, 'full-requirements' package, which includes providing Rayburn more than 450megawatts of firm power, ancillary, and energy services including risk-management products."
