LCG, June 23, 2025--The Governor of New York today directed the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to develop and construct an advanced nuclear power plant in upstate New York to deliver zero-emission power that supports a reliable and affordable electric grid. NYPA will lead the effort to develop at least one new nuclear energy facility with a combined capacity of at least one gigawatt (GW) of electricity, either alone or in partnership with private entities. The directive builds on the Governor’s 2025 State of the State to develop nuclear energy plans in New York.

Calpine Sells Output of Proposed Florida Plant
LCG, Oct. 18, 2000Calpine Corp. and Tampa, Fla.-based Seminole Electric Cooperative Inc. jointly announced yesterday that they had asked Florida regulators to approve a deal under which Seminole would buy power from a 540 megawatt Calpine merchant power plant proposed for Auburndale, Fla., about 35 miles east of Tampa.Under of the terms of the planned agreement, Seminole will have access to all of the output from the Osprey Energy Center for a period of 17 years, beginning with the plant's projected commercial operation date of June 2003, with an option to renew every 5 years. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.Calpine said the contract would support its Petition for Determination of Need, which is currently pending before the Florida Public Service Commission. Hearings on the petition are scheduled tobegin November 29.Tim Woodbury, Seminole's vice president for strategic services, said "The agreement provides us with the pricing, the reliability of supply and the flexibility that our member systems need in Florida's dynamic and evolving electric power market." Calpine said the Osprey plant would be built adjacent to an existing 150 megawatt Calpine plant in Auburndale. The company plans to add another 100 megawatts to that facility and also has in the works a 1,080 megawatt energy center planned for Vero Beach, Fla.
