LCG, November 12, 2025--Xcel Energy, together with the Utility Consumer Advocate (UCA), Colorado Energy Office (CEO), and Trial Staff of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), filed a petition on November 10 requesting Commission approval to keep Comanche Generating Station Unit 2 available for up to one additional year after its currently planned retirement on December 31, 2025.

Plug Power Fuel Cells Pass Reliability Milestone
LCG, Nov. 8, 2000--Plug Power Inc. said this morning that its residential fuel cell had passed a key milestone by achieving a "mean time between failure" of more than 1,000 hours. The company is "beta testing" five of the RU1 development units.That would indicate that half of the failures occur before 41 days have elapsed and half of them occur after 41 days.According to Greg Silvestri, chief operating officer, Plug Power had a busy and productive summer. "We achieved significant milestones in system testing and reliability and built initial development units of our first commercial product design," he said.That first commercial product, the RU1, is a 60-Hertz unit that produces power indistinguishable from that supplied by a utility. The units convert natural gas into hydrogen-rich fuel that is passed through the system's fuel cell stack where electricity is electrochemically generated. The fuel cell's power conditioner then converts the electricity into high-quality alternating current for normal household use.During the summer, the company built 30 fuel cell systems, bringing the total to 91 systems builtso far this year. During the fourth quarter, the company will manufacture the initial prototype RU1 units, one of which is expected to be on display by GE Fuel Cell Systems in the GE Power Systems booth at PowerGen International next week.
