X-energy Commences First Irradiation Tests of Advanced TRISO-X Nuclear Fuel at Idaho National Laboratory

LCG, November 6, 2025--X-energy Reactor Company, LLC, (X-energy) and the U.S. Office of Nuclear Energy today announced the start of confirmatory irradiation testing at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) to qualify X-energy’s proprietary TRISO-X fuel pebbles for commercial use in the Xe-100 Small Modular Reactor (SMR). (TRISO stands for TRi-structural ISOtropic). This is the first time that TRISO-X fuel pebbles will undergo irradiation testing in a U.S. lab, which is a critical step in meeting requirements set forth by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for the commercial deployment of advanced reactors that will use the fuel.

NextEra Energy and Google Collaborate on Accelerating Nuclear Power Deployment

LCG, October 28, 2025--NextEra Energy and Google yesterday announced two agreements that will help meet growing electricity demand from artificial intelligence (AI) with clean, reliable, 24/7 nuclear power and strengthen the nation's nuclear leadership. First, Google signed a new, 25-year agreement for power generated at the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Iowa's only nuclear power facility. The 601-MW boiling water reactor unit was shut down in 2020 and is expected to commence operations by the first quarter of 2029, pending regulatory approvals to restart the plant.

Andrea Bielsker, financial vice president and treasurer of Kansas City Power & Light Co., will add the title of chief financial officer on January 1. She joined the company as a financial planner in 1984.

Nora Mead Brownell, a member of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, has been named president of the board of directors of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners.

Patricia Higgins has resigned from the board of directors of The Williams Companies Inc., citing as the reason changes in her responsibilities as president and chief executive officer of Switch & Data Facilities Co. She had joined the Williams board in connection with its acquisition of Transco Energy Co. in 1995.

Avista Announces Board, Keyman Changes

Avista Corp., the Spokane, Wash., utility holding company formed from Washington Water Power Co., has announced two changes to its board of directors and three executive appointments.

  • Erik J. Anderson has been appointed to the board, filling a vacancy created by the previously announced departure of Tom Matthews. Anderson is chief executive of Seattle-based Matthew G. Norton Co.

  • Larry A. Stanley, a director, was elected chairman, replacing Matthews, who resigned as chairman of the board effective a week ago. Stanley will serve Matthews' unexpired term as chairman until next May.

  • Gary G. Ely was confirmed as president and chief executive officer. Last month, the Avista board had named Ely acting president and chief executive. Ely, who has been with Avista and its predecessor companies for 33 years, had previously held the position of executive vice president.

  • Scott L. Morris, president of Avista Utilities, the company's regulated electric and gas operating division, was named a vice president of the parent corporation.

    Kelly O. Norwood, vice president and general manager of Avista Utilities' energy resources department, was also made a vice president of Avista Corp.
