LCG, May 14, 2026--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that it is proposing a rule to revise wastewater limits, known as effluent limitations guidelines (ELG), for steam electric power plants that will help improve grid reliability and lower electricity prices while continuing to support clean and safe water resources. If finalized, the EPA's proposal is estimated to reduce electricity generation costs by as much as $1.1 billion annually, which could provide cost-savings to American consumers.

LCG, May 14, 2026--The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the selection of eight companies to support the near-term deployment of advanced light-water small modular reactors (SMRs) in the United States. The DOE states that awardees will collectively receive more than $94 million in Federal cost-shared funding to spur additional Gen III+ SMR deployments by addressing key gaps that have hindered the domestic nuclear industry in licensing, supply chain, and site preparation.

David Davidowitz has been named vice president for gas engineering by Consolidated Edison Co. of New York. An employee of the utility since 1968, he will be in charge of gas engineering, environmental health and safety, technical operations and quality assurance.George Greenwood has been promoted to vice president for emergency management by Consolidated Edison Co. of New York. A 36-year veteran of the company, he will be in charge of coordination of all emergency management operations.Gary Hessenauer has been named senior vice president for sales by Sempra Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy Inc.Hyman M. Miller, a trustee of the New York Power Authority since June 1990, has resigned, citing increased demands on his time because of family concerns. Timothy S. Carey, president and chief executive officer of the Hugh L. Carey Battery Park City Authority in Manhattan, has been named to serve out his unexpired term. Miller, a veteran of World War II, is a Republican who served in the New York State Assembly from 1971 to 1989.Thomas Newell has been appointed vice president for gas operations by Consolidated Edison Co. of New York. He joined Con Edison in 1980 as an operating supervisor for Queens Gas Operations. In his new position, he will oversee the Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Westchester and Van Nest Control Room.San W. Orr Jr., has retired as vice chairman and a director of MDU Resources Group Inc., the parent holding company for Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. He has served on the board of the company since 1978 and was elected vice chairman in 1996.Earl B. Parsons III, has been named vice president for fuel services by Southern Company Generation, the business unit responsible for developing and operating all non-nuclear Southern Co. generating plants in the Southeast. He most recently was Southern Co.'s vice president and associate general counsel.Edward Rasmussen has been named vice president and controller by Consolidated Edison Co. of New York. A 30-year veteran of the company, he most recently was assistant controller.Hyman Schoenblum became vice president for corporate planning of Consolidated Edison Co. of New York, effective today. Since 1997, he has been vice president and controller of Con Edison and, since last year, vice president, controller and chief financial officer of Orange & Rockland Utilities, a newly acquired subsidiary of Con Edison.
