LCG, April 24, 2025--Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) announced yesterday an agreement with Calpine Corporation (Calpine) to transport and permanently store up to 2 million metric tons per annum (MTA) of CO2 from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center, a natural gas-fired facility located near Houston, Texas. This is part of Calpine’s Baytown Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project that is designed to add CCS for the facility’s CO2 emissions. The Calpine facility could then provide a 24/7 supply of low-carbon electricity to the Texas grid plus steam to nearby industrial facilities.

Cal Power Crisis May Mean Higher Gasoline Prices
LCG, Jan. 22, 2001Gasoline distribution terminals in California suffered delays in delivery of gas from refineries last week during four days of electric service interruptions and the amount of gasoline on hand at the terminals could mean shortages at gas stations later this week, pipeline officials said over the weekend.Gasoline is carried by pipeline from oil refineries to the distribution centers, which are the "warehouses" for the liquid automotive fuel. From the centers, tank trucks convey the fuel to gas stations.Over the weekend, there were few power outages in California, allowing the oil companies to move refined products in an effort to make up the losses of last week. A spokesman for Kinder Morgan Energy Partners of Houston told the Wall Street Journal "We have been (pumping) at maximum capacity since Friday and have made great strides in replenishing inventories."Gasoline isn't the only refined product affected. Diesel fuel, in high demand for emergency backup electric generators was feeling the pinch and shortage of jet fuel at major airports worried airline companies.Pipeline companies serving both San Francisco International Airport and Los Angeles International cut back deliveries when their power was curtailed, but resumed pumping after their customers agreed to underwrite the additional energy costs.Doug Henderson, executive director of the Western States Petroleum Association, said gas stations are the only part of the petroleum system that haven't yet felt the impact, but he wasn't trying to gas up his truck when the lights went out at a Mountain View filling station the other day.
