LCG, Feb. 6, 2001Cinergy Corp. said last night that it would reorganize its business units into three groups, one for regulated businesses and the other two for merchant energy and something called "power technology and infrastructure services."

"Today, about 50 percent of our earnings come from non-regulated markets," Chief ExecutiveJames Rogers said, calling it "a dramatic change from five years ago when nearly all of our earnings came from our regulated business."

The company said each of the units will have its own chief executive, with Michael Cyrus heading up the merchant energy group, made up of Cinergy's power plants. He currently heads the company's energy commodities division.

William Grealis will run the regulated businesses, which consist of the company's gas and electric transmission and distribution activities. He now is an executive vice president and Rogers' chief of staff. Larry Thomas, who is at present the head of power technology and energy delivery, will be chief executive of power technology and infrastructure services.
