LCG, May 30, 2025--NuScale Power Corporation (NuScale), a leading provider of advanced small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear technology, yesterday announced that it has received design approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for its uprated 77 MW power modules. NuScale states that it remains the only SMR technology company with design approval from the NRC, and the company remains on track for deployment by 2030, with 50- and 77-MW SMR options.

LCG, May 29, 2025--The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released an analysis yesterday showing that the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), the grid operator for most of the state, is increasing its curtailment of the rapidly growing solar- and wind-powered generation facilities in order to balance electricity supply and demand, which is necessary to maintain a stable electric system.

Big Wind Farm Planned Near Amarillo, Texas
LCG, Feb. 28, 2001Southwestern Public Service Co., a unit of Xcel Energy Inc., and Cielo Wind Power announced jointly yesterday plans to build an 80 megawatt wind farm near White Deer, Texas, about 40 miles east of Amarillo.Construction of the facility, to be called Llano Estacado Wind Ranch at White Deer is scheduled to begin in July. Cielo will be the project developer and said it will take about six months to build the facility.The project will employ 80 Mitsubishi 1,000 kilowatt wind turbines, each of which is about 226 feet tall and weighs 160 tons. The three rotating blades have a diameter of 184 feet.Power generated when the wind blows at White Deer will be sold to Xcel Energy under a 15-year contract.
