Cinergy Buys Two Enron Merchant Plants

LCG, March 26, 2001Cinergy Corp. said on Friday its Cinergy Capital & Trading Inc. subsidiary has completed the purchase of two merchant power plants in the Southeastern U.S. from Enron North America for an undisclosed sum.

The two plants acquired by Cinergy are a 494 megawatt natural gas-fueled facility in Brownsville, Tenn., 45 miles northeast of Memphis, and a 504 megawatt power plant, also gas-fired, in Caledonia, Miss., on the Alabama border about 15 miles from Columbus.

Cinergy said in a news release that the two companies had signed a definitive agreement on the plant sale last December and that regulatory approvals have now been received.
