LCG, March 205, 2025--The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) today announced it will soon be the first regional transmission organization (RTO) in the nation to provide full services in both the Eastern and Western Interconnections of the U.S. power grid. On March 20, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) unanimously approved Southwest Power Pool’s amended tariff that includes provisions that enable Western members to join the RTO. The expansion of the SPP RTO is scheduled to go live April 1, 2026.

Dynegy to Build 330 Megawatt Kentucky Plant
LCG, April 16, 2001Dynegy Inc. said this morning it planned to build a 330 megawatt simple-cycle peaking power plant adjacent to its 500 megawatt peaking project in Louisa, Ky. The new Foothills Generating Project will be constructed on the same 20-acre Big Sandy River site as the Riverside Generating Project."Our decision to develop the Foothills Generating Project was based on the rapidly growing demands of the wholesale energy market in Kentucky and the neighboring region," said Steve Bergstrom, president and chief operating officer. "In addition to representing further progress in our long-term strategy to expand our generation portfolio throughout the country, this project demonstrates the scalability of our existing assets."Dynegy said it will sell the power generated at the plant in the wholesale electricity market to investor-owned utilities, electric cooperatives and municipalities throughout the East Central Area Reliability Council and other regions of the country. Commercial operation is expected to begin during the second quarter of 2002.
