Williams Plans 1,230 Megawatts Near Atlanta

LCG, April 20, 2001The Williams Cos. Inc. said yesterday it plans to build a 1,230 megawatt natural gas-fueled merchant power plant near Atlanta, Ga. The company said the new facility could commence commercial operation sometime in 2004.

"This new facility will assist us in developing our growing portfolio of power agreements in Georgia(and) will fit our plan to expand our power portfolio in the Southeast," said Bill Hobbs, president ofWilliams' energy marketing and trading unit.

The plant will occupy about 30 acres of a 230-acre site with the balance of the property preserved in its natural state and dedicated to community use for a park or hiking trails. The location was chosen because of a nearby natural gas pipeline and existing power substation and transmission lines.

Williams said it will take about a year to complete the permitting process before construction can begin.
