LCG, May 14, 2026--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that it is proposing a rule to revise wastewater limits, known as effluent limitations guidelines (ELG), for steam electric power plants that will help improve grid reliability and lower electricity prices while continuing to support clean and safe water resources. If finalized, the EPA's proposal is estimated to reduce electricity generation costs by as much as $1.1 billion annually, which could provide cost-savings to American consumers.

LCG, May 14, 2026--The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the selection of eight companies to support the near-term deployment of advanced light-water small modular reactors (SMRs) in the United States. The DOE states that awardees will collectively receive more than $94 million in Federal cost-shared funding to spur additional Gen III+ SMR deployments by addressing key gaps that have hindered the domestic nuclear industry in licensing, supply chain, and site preparation.

Shirley Ann Jackson, President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been elected to the board of directors of New Jersey utility holding company Public Service Enterprise Group. Dr. Jackson, a theoretical physicist, is former chairwoman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.Beverly Monne has been named vice president, controller and chief accounting officer of Oneok Inc. and all divisions and subsidiaries, effective July 1. She has been manager of accounting since 1997.John M. Quain presided this week over his last meeting as chairman of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. Gov. Ridge named Quain chairman of the PUC on March 9, 1995, and again on May 30, 1996. He was first named commissioner by Gov. Robert Casey on April 1, 1993.William L. Stewart, president of Pinnacle West Energy and APS Generation, has been elected a director of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. Stewart, who joined Arizona Public Service Co. in 1994 as chief nuclear officer, is a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Navy's nuclear submarine service.Steven Wheeler, a partner with the Phoenix-based law firm of Snell and Wilmer, will join Pinnacle West Capital Corp. as senior vice president for transmission operations, regulation and planning. He has served as the Company's outside counsel for more than 20 years, representing Pinnacle West and its subsidiaries, including Arizona Public Service Co.Katherine C. Williams has been named chief financial officer of Duke Engineering & Services, effective July 1, replacing Sandra K. Vlahos, who has accepted the position as special assistant to the CFO of parent company Duke Energy Corp. Williams moves to Duke Engineering from Westinghouse Electric Co. where she was controller for its nuclear fuel business unit in Columbia, S.C.
