Tenaska to Build 1,250 Megawatt Oklahoma Plant

LCG, June 22, 2001--Tenaska Inc. and Kiowa Power Partners said yesterday they will begin construction next month on the Kiamichi Energy Facility, a 1,250 megawatt natural gas-fueled power plant near McAlester, Okla.

The facility will be located on an 100-acre site approximately three miles south of the town of Kiowa and is expected to enter commercial operation in about two years.

"KPP began the development of the Kiamichi Project in early 2000. Since that time, we have beenworking closely with the local community concerning all aspects of the project," said Mark Wilson, managing director of Kiowa Power Partners.

Darrell Bevelhymer, Tenaska's vice president of business development, said "The Kiamichi Energy Facility is expected to be among the largest privately funded economic development projects ever undertaken in Oklahoma. Throughout its construction and future operations, the project will provide significant economic benefits to the Kiowa, McAlester and Atoka region."

A partnership between Black & Veatch of Kansas City, Mo., and Zachry Construction Company of San Antonio, Texas, will handle engineering, procurement and construction for Tenaska, which has overall responsibility for the project's final-stage development, financing and construction.
