One Mohave Unit Back On Line
LCG, July 5, 2001One of two units at the power plant in southern Nevada that failed earlier this week, subjecting Las Vegas to the first blackouts in Nevada history, was restarted yesterday following repairs to a leaky boiler."We're pumping out 720 megawatts at Unit Two," said Don Hendren, a spokesman for Southern California Edison Co. at the Mohave Generating Station in Laughlin. "The other unit should be up later this week."Hendren said both units at Mohave dropped off line because of boiler leaks. Nevada Power Co., which has a 222 megawatt interest in the plant, said it was forced to cut power to 10,000 customers when the plant went down.
