LCG, November 12, 2025--Xcel Energy, together with the Utility Consumer Advocate (UCA), Colorado Energy Office (CEO), and Trial Staff of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), filed a petition on November 10 requesting Commission approval to keep Comanche Generating Station Unit 2 available for up to one additional year after its currently planned retirement on December 31, 2025.

Steam Problem Shuts Down Palo Verde Nuclear Unit
LCG, July 16, 2001An equipment problem Friday involving steam to the main turbine in the 1,270 megawatt Unit 2 of Arizona Public Service Co.'s Palo Verde Nuclear Generation Station caused a shutdown of the reactor, the utility said.The unit was at 60 percent of power this morning, and increasing output, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's daily plant status report.APS said the reactor was designed to shut itself down automatically in the type of situation that was encountered, and all systems operated according to plan."Our customers will have the energy they need to keep their homes cool and their lights on," said Jim Levine, executive vice president of APS Generation on Friday.Three-unit, 3,778 megawatt Palo Verde, the nation's largest nuclear power plant in terms of both size and output, supplies power to 4 million customers in Arizona, Texas, New Mexico and California.
