Constellation Files License Renewal Applications with the NRC for Two New York Units

LCG, June 29, 2026--Constellation announced on June 26 that it has filed license renewal applications with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to extend for 20 years the operations of Ginna Clean Energy Center and Nine Mile Point Unit 1 reactors in upstate New York to 2049. Constellation stated that it's decision to invest in these plants to extend their safe and reliable operations into mid-century demonstrates that New York State's renewal of its Zero Emissions Credit (ZEC) program is working as intended. Furthermore, Constellation stated that maintaining its nuclear fleet is estimated to save New Yorkers $50 billion and sustain reliable emissions-free generation resources to serve increasing electricity demands.

Davis' PR Hitman Quits Without Pay

LCG, July 31, 2001Chris Lehane, one of two spin doctors for former President Clinton who have helped shape California Gov. Gray Davis' response to the state's energy crunch, has cut ties with the administration and won't be paid for work already completed, the Sacramento Bee reported this morning.

Lehane and his partner, Mark Fabiani, were hired by Davis in May on a six-month, $30,000-a-month contract. Fabiani left last month an neither will receive any money for their services, the paper said.

Because Lehane and Fabiani each received at least $10,000 under contract with Southern California Edison Co. in the past year, Lewis Uhler, president of the National Tax Limitation Committee, filed a lawsuit alleging that conflict of interest laws had been violated.

Davis spokesman Steve Maviglio, himself caught in the conflict of interest controversy, said Lehane and Fabiani were instrumental in persuading the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to limit the wholesale cost of power in the state.

"Chris Lehane provided an invaluable service to the people of California in helping us get action after a yearlong wait from FERC," Maviglio told the Bee. "It's a shame that politics gets in the way of public service."

Uhler, however, said he believes Lehane and Fabiani represent a larger problem in the Davis administration, and he pointed to the recent dismissal of energy traders who held stock in energy companies.

"Doesn't anybody in the Governor's Office understand conflict of interest?" he asked.
