LCG, August 27, 2025--Wärtsilä Energy announced yesterday an agreement with East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) to supply the engineering and equipment for a 217-MW power plant to be constructed in Liberty, Kentucky. The Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for delivery in mid-2027, and the plant is expected to be commissioned in early 2028.

Mirant Moves into Puerto Rico Energy Market
LCG, Aug. 1, 2001--Mirant Corp. said yesterday it will purchase a 540-megawatt power plant and a liquefied natural gas terminal operated by Puerto Rican-based EcoElectrica Holdings Ltd. The move will put Mirant into Puerto Rico for the first time.Mirant will acquire 100 percent of EcoElectrica from its owners, Edison International Inc. and Enron Corp., for about $586 million cash and will assume liabilities of $600 million, the company said.A Mirant spokesman said in a company news release that the LNG terminal would continue to provide gas for the power plant and that there were no plans at this point to begin exporting LNG from the terminal to other market in the U.S., the Caribbean or Latin America.Mirant's presence in the Caribbean includes ownership and operation of power plants in Jamaica,Trinidad and Tobago, and the Bahamas.
