Alliant Energy Submits Plans to Iowa Utilities Commission for the Addition of 1,000 MW of Wind Capacity

LCG, July 2, 2025--Alliant Energy today announced plans to add up to 1,000 MW of wind energy generating capacity in Iowa to meet demand and ensure reliable, affordable energy for its customers. The plans are included in a filing with the Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC), and the company anticipates a decision from the IUC in the first quarter of 2026.

570 Megawatts New Capacity Planned for Las Vegas

LCG, Aug. 17, 2001--Pinnacle West Energy said this morning it plans to develop a natural gas-fired electric generating station 20 miles north of Las Vegas, Nev. The 570-megawatt Silverhawk Power Station is the first project that the Company will develop in Nevada, the company said.

Pinnacle West Energy is a subsidiary of utility holding company Pinnacle West Capital Corp. and a sister company of Arizona Public Service Co.

"Southern Nevada, particularly the Las Vegas area, is growing faster than most areas of the country," said Bill Stewart, president of Pinnacle West Energy. "Building this power plant in Nevada is a very important step in our overall growth strategy and reinforces our position as one of the top power producers in the West."

Stewart added that "The site we're developing is ideally situated to meet the energy demands of the people of Nevada while also having transmission access into Arizona."

The company said it has started the project engineering and permitting and has purchased major equipment. Construction on the combined-cycle Silverhawk plant, located in the Apex Industrial Park, is scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2002, and the plant is projected to be in service by the Spring of 2004.

The company said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Las Vegas-based Southern Nevada Water Authority to be a 25-percent owner of the plant. Total cost of building the plant is expected to be about $400 million.
