Faster-than-Expected Data Center Load Growth May Cause Increased Regional Short-term Fossil Fuel Generation and Wholesale Electricity Prices

LCG, March 18, 2026--The EIA released a new "In-depth Analysis" of the potential impact of faster-than-expected near-term growth in data center power demand on power generation and wholesale prices on March 12. The analysis models the lower 48 states through 2027 and compares results to its base case scenario. EdF in 715 Megawatt Power Plant for Vietnam

LCG, Sept. 17, 2001--A consortium led by Electricit de France was set to received a license from the government of Vietnam to build a 715 megawatt, $480 million gas-fueled power plant at the southern coast city of Phu My, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reported this morning.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry confirmed the licensing, which was to include the signing of a contract with the ministry, a power purchase agreement with state monopoly Electricity of Vietnam and a gas supply agreement with PetroVietnam.

According to Deutsche Presse-Agentur, the 715 megawatt Phu My 2-2 is to be part of the 3,600 megawatt Phu My Power complex in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. EdF has already contracted with General Electric Co. of the U.S. to supply turbines for the plant.

Fuel for the plant will be piped onshore from Nam Con Son sea basin project off the coast. Construction of a $565 million, 236-mile underwater pipeline from Nam Con Son basin to Phu My station began in May.

When completed in 2004, the entire Phu My complex will generate enough power to meet roughly 40 per cent of Vietnam's electricity needs, Electricity of Vietnam has said.
