LCG, June 18, 2025--The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced late today a new pilot program to expedite the testing of advanced nuclear reactor designs under DOE authority outside of the national laboratories. The new pilot program is intended to unlock private funding and provide a fast track to commercial licensing.

LCG, June 17, 2025--X-energy Reactor Company, LLC (X-energy) announced yesterday that it has received key updates from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regarding the construction permit application for the initial deployment of the Xe-100 advanced reactor at a Texas Gulf Coast site. The NRC published an 18-month review timeline for the project, located in Seadrift, Texas, and will concurrently proceed with its environmental assessment. The NRC cited the completeness and quality of the application, as well as the effectiveness of pre-application engagements for the 18-month timeline.

Aquila Begins Building Illinois Power Plant
LCG, Sept. 19, 2001--The Aquila Inc. subsidiary of UtiliCorp United Inc. said yesterday that it had marked with a groundbreaking ceremony the beginning of construction of a 510 megawatt natural gas-fueled power plant west of Champaign, Ill.On hand with hard hats and chrome-plated shovels were officials from Piatt County, Ill., and representatives from Illinois Power Co., Burns & McDonnell Engineering, and Aquila.Construction of the facility, which is named the Goose Creek Energy Center, will require about 150 workers, and a permanent staff of six will operate the plant. The plant will generate about $185 in new property tax money, with a little more than $100,000 going to the local school district."We are pleased to become part of the Piatt County community," said Robert K. Green, chairman of Aquila and president and chief operating officer of UtiliCorp United, at the groundbreaking ceremony. "Demand for power is growing nationwide, making this facility and this community important contributors to the economic growth of the entire country."Aquila said power from the new plant will be sold into the regional wholesale electricity market. The facility is expected to operate less than 1,500 hours a year, during periods of peak demand.
