NextEra Energy and Google Collaborate on Accelerating Nuclear Power Deployment

LCG, October 28, 2025--NextEra Energy and Google yesterday announced two agreements that will help meet growing electricity demand from artificial intelligence (AI) with clean, reliable, 24/7 nuclear power and strengthen the nation's nuclear leadership. First, Google signed a new, 25-year agreement for power generated at the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Iowa's only nuclear power facility. The 601-MW boiling water reactor unit was shut down in 2020 and is expected to commence operations by the first quarter of 2029, pending regulatory approvals to restart the plant.

Google Announces Gas-fired Broadwing Energy Project with CCS

LCG, October 23, 2025--Google announced today a first-of-its kind agreement to support a natural gas-fired power plant with carbon capture and storage (CCS). The 400-MW Broadwing Energy power project, located in Decatur, Illinois, will capture and permanently store its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. By agreeing to buy most of the power it generates, Google is helping get this new, baseload power source built and connected to the regional grid that supports our data centers.

Steven A. Appelt has been promoted to executive vice president for administration by AEP Energy Services Inc., the energy trading and marketing subsidiary of American Electric Power Co. He previously was senior vice president for administration and is responsible for the administrative functions of AEP's energy trading group, including the middle office, and financial accounting functions.

Robert M. Aquilina has been elected a director of Allegheny Energy Inc. A senior vice president of AT&T Long Distance Services, he currently leads the organization that markets AT&T's domestic and international long distance services to 60 million customers in the United States.

Randy Barnard has been named president of the international operations of The Williams Cos., succeeding John C. Bumgarner Jr. who resigned from Williams to devote his attentions to his current position as president of strategic investments for Williams Communications Group Inc. which was recently spun off from Williams. Barnard was most recently the country manager and general director of Williams' Venezuelan operations.

Terry McCallister has been named president and chief operating officer of WGL Holdings Inc. and its subsidiary Washington Gas Light Co. The appointment takes effect on Monday.

Dilek Samil has been named chief financial officer and senior vice president of finance by Cleco Corp. (Central Louisiana Electric Co.). Samil previously worked 22 years for FPL Group Inc., the parent company of Florida Power & Light Co. Her most recent position was vice president for special projects.

Patricia Swanke, vice president for operations with DPL Inc., the holding company for DPL Energy Co. and Dayton Power & Light Co., will assume responsibility for the company's electric transmission and distribution business, succeeding Judy Wyatt, who is retiring after 23 years with the company.

Eric J. van der Walde has been promoted to executive vice president for marketing and trading by AEP Energy Services Inc., the energy trading and marketing subsidiary of American Electric Power Co. He previously was senior vice president for energy trading and will continue to direct AEP's domestic trading activities in the power, natural gas, coal and SO2 allowancemarkets.

Cinergy Announces Executive Suite Changes

Cinergy Corp. has announced several organizational changes, including a new president for itssubsidiary, The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co., to increase the effectiveness and the speed at which it can respond to developments in the industry.

  • James L. Turner will have full responsibility for the regulated businesses organization andwill retain the title of president, Regulated Businesses.

  • Gregory C. Ficke will become president of Cincinnati Gas & Electric, succeeding Joe Hale, who remains vice president for corporate communications and president of the CinergyFoundation.

  • William J. Grealis will become executive vice president for special projects, and will beresponsible for coordinating company initiatives on major issues. He was most recently chief executive of Regulated Businesses.

  • Donald B. Ingle Jr. will have responsibility for infrastructure services and its portfoliocompanies, VESTAR, Cadence, Reliant and Lattice. He will retain the title of President, Infrastructure Services.
