LCG, June 29, 2026--Constellation announced on June 26 that it has filed license renewal applications with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to extend for 20 years the operations of Ginna Clean Energy Center and Nine Mile Point Unit 1 reactors in upstate New York to 2049. Constellation stated that it's decision to invest in these plants to extend their safe and reliable operations into mid-century demonstrates that New York State's renewal of its Zero Emissions Credit (ZEC) program is working as intended. Furthermore, Constellation stated that maintaining its nuclear fleet is estimated to save New Yorkers $50 billion and sustain reliable emissions-free generation resources to serve increasing electricity demands.

Duke Begins Building Washington 600 Megawatter
LCG, Oct. 10, 2001--A subsidiary of Duke Energy Corp. said this morning that it would break ground today on a new $300 million electric power generating facility in Grays Harbor County, Wash., about 32 miles west of Olympia.Duke Energy North America said the Grays Harbor Energy Facility, a 600 megawatt, combined-cycle power plant, will be located in the Satsop Development Park and is slated to begin commercial operation in mid-2003.U.S. Sen. Patty Murray noted that the energy crisis "does not get the attention it received a few months ago" but pointed out that the new plant will provide "much needed power, as well as family-wage jobs for Grays Harbor County."The new plant will be constructed on a site next to terminated nuclear plant projects. While the nuclear plants were never operational, the new plant will use some of the site facilities associated with the partially completed plants, such as the electric transmission and water systems, Duke said.Duke/Fluor Daniel will build the facility and work closely with local labor unions to complete the project. A peak work force of approximately 500 skilled workers will be employed during the construction. When complete, the facility will employ about 25 operation and maintenance professionals, the company said.
