Constellation Files License Renewal Applications with the NRC for Two New York Units

LCG, June 29, 2026--Constellation announced on June 26 that it has filed license renewal applications with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to extend for 20 years the operations of Ginna Clean Energy Center and Nine Mile Point Unit 1 reactors in upstate New York to 2049. Constellation stated that it's decision to invest in these plants to extend their safe and reliable operations into mid-century demonstrates that New York State's renewal of its Zero Emissions Credit (ZEC) program is working as intended. Russia to Complete Soviet-era Nuclear Plant

LCG, Oct. 16, 2001--The Russian Atomic Energy Ministry is resuming construction of a nuclear power plant in the republic of Bashkortostan, on the lower reaches of the Volga river, according to an English language report picked up by the British Broadcasting Co. from Russian news agency Itar-Tass.

Itar-Tass said it learned of the plans to complete building the Soviet-era nuclear plant from Rosenergoatom, a Russian firm that will participate in its completion.

Development of the Bashkortostan plant was begun by the Soviet Union. However, the construction was suspended by a decision of the republican parliament in 1990 due to the anti-atomic campaign following the Chernobyl disaster, Itar-Tass said.

The plant, located in the town of Agidel, will have four reactors, each with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts, and will incorporate improved safety design, but the news agency did not say whether the reactors would be protected by containment buildings. The facility will be Russia's 11th nuclear plant and is scheduled for commissioning in 2010.

At the time construction was halted, the plant was about 10 percent complete. The revived project will be financed by Bashkortostan and Rosenergoatom, Itar-Tass said.
