Enron Negotiating to Sell Korean Gas Interests

LCG, Nov. 6, 2001--Enron Corp., already on the ropes in the U.S. and India, is in negotiations with one or more interested parties to sell its 50 percent interest in SK-Enron, a gas distribution joint venture with SK Corp. of South Korea.

Korea Oil News said companies with which Enron is talking include El Paso Corp., BP-Amoco and Exxon Mobil. The publication said Enron planned on receiving letters of intent from interested parties by the end of this month and to complete the sale either this year or early next year.

Enron and SK formed the joint venture in 1999, each company contributing 25 billion won ($19.44 million U.S.) for a total of 50 billion won paid-in capital.

Y. H. Moon, an official of SK-Enron, told Reuters news agency "It is true that Enron is in talks to sell the stake in the joint venture, but we cannot comment where the sale talks are now and how they would proceed," and gave no other details.
