LCG, July 2, 2025--Alliant Energy today announced plans to add up to 1,000 MW of wind energy generating capacity in Iowa to meet demand and ensure reliable, affordable energy for its customers. The plans are included in a filing with the Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC), and the company anticipates a decision from the IUC in the first quarter of 2026.

Sithe Calls it Quits on N.Y. Peaking Plant
LCG, Dec. 17, 2001--Sithe Energies Inc. on Friday said it had decided to call off development of a new power plant it had planned to build in Ramapo, N.Y. The company said the decision is based on the uncertain climate for the development of peaking power facilities in New York State."The current climate in this region, with its shifting energy market conditions, makes the construction of a peaking facility at this location uneconomic at this time," said Jim McGowan, senior vice president for development. "This kind of decision is highly complex, and is reached only after careful consideration of many factors. No single factor was determinant."Two state agencies, the New York Power Authority and the Long Island Power Authority, have been actively addressing the need for peaking power in and around New York City by installing small gas turbines of 40 or 50 megawatts capacity in the region.The Ramapo plant was originally conceived as a baseload plant but was changed to a peaker earlier this year."Sithe has a long history in New York State of developing and operating clean energy facilities," said McGowan. "Sithe has invested billions of dollars throughout the Northeast region. We look forward to continuing that relationship, and we'll evaluate other opportunities as they arise."
