LCG, February 20, 2026--The EIA today issued an "in-brief analysis" that estimates U.S. power plant developers and operators plan to complete a record installation of 86 GW of new, utility-scale electric generating capacity that is connected to the U.S. power grid in 2026. Last year, 53 GW of new capacity was added to the grid, which was the largest capacity installation in a single year since 2002. Thus the estimate of 86 GW of new capacity in 2026 is a whopping 33 GW greater than the year prior. It should be noted that over 20 GW of the 86 GW of new capacity this year is estimated to be completed in December.

PG&E Gets Court Okay to Settle Small Claims
LCG, Dec. 28, 2001--Pacific Gas & Electric Co. said yesterday it has received approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to settle most of the 12,800 claims against it, but not authority to pay any of them. Settled claims would be paid following acceptance of a plan of reorganization for the utility.About 80 percent of the claims filed against the utility are fort amounts less than $100,000, and PG&E will be allowed to settle those. The company will also be allowed to settle some claims for amounts greater than $100,000 but less than $5 million. The court also approved the utility's request to object to groups of claims on the basis that they are, for example, duplicative, late-filed or have been paid, without waiving its right to assert additional objections to the same claims, if necessary.
