Calpine and ExxonMobil Sign CO2 Transportation and Storage Agreement for CCS Project in Texas

LCG, April 24, 2025--Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) announced yesterday an agreement with Calpine Corporation (Calpine) to transport and permanently store up to 2 million metric tons per annum (MTA) of CO2 from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center, a natural gas-fired facility located near Houston, Texas. This is part of Calpine’s Baytown Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project that is designed to add CCS for the facility’s CO2 emissions. North Korea Meets with Russia for Nuke Deal

LCG, March 26, 2002-Last week North Korean and Russian officials talked about joint energy endeavors.

North Korean parliamentary head Choe Thae Bok went to Moscow to speak with Russian industry official Ilya Klebanov about rail and electricity development, including building a nuclear plant.

North Korea has been dubbed part of an "axis of evil" by U.S. President Bush.

A 1994 agreement required the country to stop nuclear arms development. Many international experts say that the country is still retaining and possibly producing weapons-grade plutonium. The agreement also included inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

With U.S. assistance two light-water nuclear reactors were slated to be built by 2003 according to this agreement, but now the project is not likely to happen for years. North Korea is looking for other avenues by which to develop nuclear power.

According to the Guardian, Moscow officials are hesitant to form any definite plans with the North Korean regime.
