Alberta Power Generators Want to Export Electricity
LCG, March 19, 2002-Provincial Energy Minister Murray Smith encouraged Alberta to export significant amounts of electricity to the United States. On Monday Smith told independent power generators that they should avoid keeping Alberta energy inside the Canadian province. He said exports would strengthen the market, deregulated for 15 months. Currently, the primary connection between Alberta and the Western Power Grid is through a 1,000 MW line via British Columbia.
