LCG, April 23, 2026--TerraPower announced today the official start of construction on its Kemmerer Unit 1 nuclear power plant, which could be the first utility-scale advanced nuclear power plant in the United States. In early March, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced that it had authorized the staff to issue a construction permit for Unit 1 commercial nuclear power plant in Kemmerer, Wyoming.

LCG, April 22, 2026--The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) yesterday announced two new, 20-year agreements for a 225 MW/900 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in East Tennessee and for a 200 MW/800 MWh BESS project in northern Alabama. Both projects are planned to commence commercial operations in 2029.

Russia Considers Electricity Reforms
LCG, April 29, 2002-The Russian Parliament will receive draft bills regarding widespread energy market reforms. The plan, submitted today, is designed to appeal to foreign investorst. Generation and marketing units would be privatized, while provisions would be included that yield transmission to the government.In addition to selling off state-controlled assets, the plan includes eliminating state control of electricity prices.Former Prime Minister Anatoly Chubais, who now heads Russia's electricity monopoly Unified Energy Systems, developed the beginning stages of the plan.Local governments and government-run factories that either cannot or do not pay for electricity have left Russian giant Unified Energy Systems fraught with debts.
