Calpine and ExxonMobil Sign CO2 Transportation and Storage Agreement for CCS Project in Texas

LCG, April 24, 2025--Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) announced yesterday an agreement with Calpine Corporation (Calpine) to transport and permanently store up to 2 million metric tons per annum (MTA) of CO2 from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center, a natural gas-fired facility located near Houston, Texas. This is part of Calpine’s Baytown Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project that is designed to add CCS for the facility’s CO2 emissions. The Calpine facility could then provide a 24/7 supply of low-carbon electricity to the Texas grid plus steam to nearby industrial facilities.

Doral Renewables Selects NovaSource as Partner to Deploy the 1.6-GWdc Mammoth Solar Project in Indiana

LCG, April 21, 2025--NovaSource Power Services ("NovaSource") recently announced that it has partnered with Doral Renewables and has been selected as the Operations and Maintenance ("O&M") and Generator Operator ("GO") for the Mammoth Solar Project, one of the largest agrivoltaics facilities in the United States.

The results of the Nuclear Energy Institute elections have reestablished the positions of many already holding posts. New appointees include Alan J. Fohrer and Michael B. Sellman, who have joined the Nuclear Energy Institute's Executive Committee. Also, Donald C. Hintz, president of Entergy Corp. was elected NEI vice-chairman, and Robert E. Prince will join the NEI board. The NEI develops industry policy and is located in Washington D.C.

James A. Messersmith will become vice president of the Oglethorpe Power Corporation and will be responsible for gas-fired and hydroelectric generation. He has been with the company since 1991 and has been in the energy generation industry for 27 years.

Simon Kukes, president of Tyumen Oil Company, will join the Maguire Energy Institute Board of Advisors. Maguire Energy Institute is located at SMU's Cox School of Business in Dallas, Texas.

Sydney M. Ferguson has been given the position of senior vice president responsible for corporate communications and government relationships at USEC Inc., an international energy company and major uranium fuel supplier. Ferguson most recently served as Managing Director of Qorvis Communications, Inc.
