Pennsylvania Plant Planned by Duke Energy

LCG, May 23, 2002--Duke Energy Corp. is planning construction of a 620-megawatt power plant in Pennsylvania's Fayette County, in Masontown.

The plant would start producing power in summer 2003, costing about $400 million to build. The configuration will consist of two combustion turbines, to be fired by either natural gas or fuel oil.

Some of the most attractive features of the plant site were the proximity to natural gas pipelines, transmission lines, and water from the Monongahela River. All necessary regulatory approvals have been granted, according to Duke Energy spokesman Jeremy Dreier.
