LCG, June 23, 2025--The Governor of New York today directed the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to develop and construct an advanced nuclear power plant in upstate New York to deliver zero-emission power that supports a reliable and affordable electric grid. NYPA will lead the effort to develop at least one new nuclear energy facility with a combined capacity of at least one gigawatt (GW) of electricity, either alone or in partnership with private entities. The directive builds on the Governor’s 2025 State of the State to develop nuclear energy plans in New York.

Illinois Power and ComEd Intend to Join PJM
LCG, May 29, 2002--Illinois Power and Commonwealth Edison have filed documents with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) notifying the agency of their intent to be part of an independent transmission company under the transmission authority of the Pennsylvania-Jersey-Maryland Interconnection.In a statement, a representative of the parent company of ComEd, Exelon's Senior Vice President Betsy Moler, said, "It is clear that Exelon's primary wholesale energy trading partners and suppliers are in the east, and our strongest interconnections are to the east." Illinois Power, like ComEd, was a member of the Alliance regional transmission organization (RTO), whose members FERC ruled would need to file to join another RTO by May 28. The Alliance RTO included nine companies, and undertook discussions with the Midwest-ISO concerning possible integration for a for-profit transmission entity. Moler said, "ComEd negotiated with the MISO, but could not come to an agreement on rate structure and other matters."Illinois Power and ComEd plan to join PJM through National Grid, the transmission manager for Alliance GridCo. If this is not possible, Illinois Power would join as a transmission owner. American Electric Power and Dayton Power & Light also have notified the PJM of their plans to be part of the PJM's RTO.
