Las Vegas Cogeneration To Expand Plant
LCG, July 2, 2002--An existing facility located five miles north of Las Vegas, Nev. is being expanded from an existing single plant of 50 megawatts to include an additional combined-cycle unit of 240 megawatts, according to owner Las Vegas Cogeneration LP, which is an unregulated subsidiary of Black Hills Corporation.The installation of four 46-megawatt GE LM6000 combustion turbines, their heat recovery counterparts, and two 28-megawatt Dresser Rand steam turbines should be completed in time for a September, 2002 startup date. Allegheny Energy Supply Co. LLC, a subsidiary of Allegheny Energy Inc., will assume control of the new plant, having signed a 15-year contract for 222 megawatts of electric power capacity.Las Vegas Cogeneration II, as the new plant is named, will feature carbon monoxide catalyst and NOx selective catalytic reduction (SCR) units, which are also to be installed on the existing plant.
