OPG Completes Darlington Nuclear Station Refurbishment Project Under Budget and Ahead of Schedule

LCG, February 2, 2026--Ontario Power Generation (OPG) announced today that construction on the four-unit Darlington Refurbishment project is now complete. Station staff are completing final testing, and the last unit is expected to return to service in the coming weeks. OPG stated that the overall project is currently four months ahead of schedule and $150 million under budget.

California Plant Licenses Delayed Due to NOx and other Emissions

LCG, July 23, 2002-Calpine Corporation did not get the California Energy Commission's initial approval for the construction of a 670 MW gas-fired, combined cycle power plant.

The plant's emissions in nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, PM 10 and sulfur oxides have not been offset sufficiently, and the plant's initial recommendation from the Commission has been suspended.

Calpine's $325-400 million project will await recommendations voted on by the Commission staff.

The Inland Empire Energy Center was planned to begin operations in late 2004 and will be located near Romoland in Riverside county.
