Nevada Power Rate Case Settlement Delayed Again
LCG, August 19, 2002-The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has set a September 25 date for the third round of settlement talks regarding exorbitant wholesale rates.During the Western power crisis last year, Sierra Pacific Resources Corporation's Nevada Power signed long-term contracts for wholesale power at $95 per megawatt-hour.The utility wants to cancel millions of dollars' worth of pricey, long-term power contracts, and FERC administrative law Judge Lawrence Brenner called for a Washington settlement conference to be held this September. The company brought a suit against Duke Energy earlier this year, citing unreasonable rates, and a settlement was reached in June at a price just above the market rate.
