Enron Gas Trader Gets Prison Sentence for '98 Misdeed
LCG, August 19, 2002-An ex-Enron employee was sentenced to over 3 years in prison for misdirecting gas revenue.Steven Gary Todoroff, a former director of marketing and trading at Enron Corp.'s EOTT Energy Corp., arranged an exchange of 100,000 barrels of butane between EOTT and Petrogas Inc in December of 1998.The 100,000 barrels of butane in question were then redirected to a company that Todoroff owned, and the barrels sold for nearly $1 million. Todoroff deposited the subsequent money into a personal account.Replacement barrels then had to be bought by EOTT at a cost of $3 million to meet the contract with Petrogas in 2000.Todoroff pleaded guilty in May. Last Friday U.S. District Judge Sim Lake sentenced the 47-year-old to more than three years in prison in addition to ordering Todoroff to refund the $3 million to EOTT.
