FERC to Hold Meeting on Market Rules
LCG, August 28, 2002-The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission plans to conduct a public meeting October 2 in order to discuss fair market rules for wholesale electricity trading. The meeting is one of several that FERC is holding in order to begin implementing its standard market design plans. The October meeting will allow FERC to take public input on such possible rules as requiring transmission operators to employ market indices and reporting in order to monitor trading.Market rules have come under scrutiny after evidence of gaming and manipulative market practices came to light earlier this year in regard to the California energy crisis of 2000/2001. Several companies are now under investigation by both FERC and the Securities and Exchange Commission.FERC's proposed market design, which provides for regional transmission organizations, is listed under docket RM01-12.
