TransAlta to Acquire Wind Developer

LCG, Oct. 28, 2001--Vision Quest Windelectric Inc., a Calgary-based owner and operator of wind turbine power plants, will be acquired by TransAlta Corp., possibly by the end of the year.

The current wind turbine portfolio of Vision Quest has a total maximum capacity of 44 megawatts. It would become an independently operated unit within TransAlta, which already has an investment in the company.

TransAlta, an unregulated power generator and marketer, plans to acquire Vision Quest's C$32 million debt, and will conduct due diligence and await regulatory approval on the deal. It intends to generate over 10% of its power output from renewable sources as part of a long-term strategy.
