LCG, October 2, 2020--PSEG yesterday filed applications to extend Zero Emission Certificates (ZECs) for the Salem and Hope Creek nuclear power plants in Salem County in order to preserve New Jersey's largest carbon-free source of electricity and to help New Jersey achieve its clean energy goal of 100 percent carbon-free energy supply by 2050.

Judge Dismisses Suit Against Cheney-Led Panel
LCG, Dec. 9, 2002--A lawsuit brought by David M. Walker, head of the General Accounting Office (GAO), against Vice-President Dick Cheney concerning communications which helped shape the Bush Administration's energy policy, was dismissed today by Judge John D. Bates in Federal District Court.In bringing the lawsuit, Judge Bates said Walker did so without significant backing from Congress, which appointed him to lead the GAO, Congress' investigative arm and an agency widely perceived to be free from partisan biases. Bates found that such a suit would have to meet "especially rigorous" standards in order to be considered, since it would bring the judicial branch into a matter involving the constitutional separation of power between the executive and legislative branches.Walker, who served under Republican presidents Reagan and the elder President Bush, said in February, "The GAO is not asking for information regarding conversations between administration officials, but between the White House and outside parties." His lawsuit arose after Cheney refused in 2001 to turn over to the GAO records of those present at meetings Cheney and his staff held with business leaders and others policy advisors. He said objections by Cheney that Walker was asking for "recommendations, deliberations, minutes or notes" were "misrepresentations."The case may be appealed, possibly to the Supreme Court, and marks the first time that the 81-year-old agency has brought a lawsuit against the executive branch.
