Wind Turbines Begin Generating in Alberta

LCG, Mar. 19, 2003--A wind farm consisting of 32 turbines has commenced operation in the Canadian province of Alberta.

Initially, 22 of the turbines will produce power while construction continues, based on developers ENMAX Green Power Inc.'s and Vision Quest Windelectric Inc.'s plans to install a total of 114 Vestas turbines. Once completed, the installation at McBride Lake will be capable of producing a maximum of 75 megawatts.

"Even given the severe challenges of construction during the winter, we were able to have wind turbines generating within only four months of breaking ground on the project," Vision Quest's managing director and CEO, Fred Gallagher, said. ENMAX Energy,a subsidiary of Calgary's publicly owned ENMAX Corporation, provides wind-based power through the Greenmax program. ENMAX, which is an equal partner with Vision Quest in construction and ownership, will purchase the electricity, while Vision Quest will operate the facility. An incentive was provided through the Canadian government's Wind Power Production Incentive budget.

Sean Durfy, president and chief operating officer of ENMAX Energy Corporation, said that the McBride installation shows that "wind power is becoming an increasingly viable option for residential and commercial customers."
