LCG, June 11, 2025--The AES Corporation (AES) announced today that it has completed construction of the 1,000 MW Bellefield 1 project, which is under a 15-year contract with Amazon. Bellefield is a two-phase project, with each phase including 500 MW of solar plus 500 MW of a four-hour, battery energy storage system (BESS). When Phase II is completed in 2026, the total installed capacity will be 2,000 MW, and AES expects the total project will be the largest solar-plus-storage facility in the United States.

LCG, June 9, 2025--Duke Energy announced today its intent to submit an application to the Public Service Commission of South Carolina (PSCSC) for approval to build a new natural gas combined-cycle generating facility with hydrogen capability in Anderson County, South Carolina. The company plans to submit the construction application to the PSCSC later this year. If approved, it expects construction would commence in summer 2027, with operations beginning by early 2031.

Southern Company Announces Combined-Cycle Operations
LCG, Oct. 2, 2003--A 630-megawatt gas-fired combined-cycle unit near Orlando, Fla., has begun operating, according to Southern Company, which developed "Stanton A" with the Orland Utilities Commission (OUC), Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA), and Kissimmee Utility Authority.Southern Company, the owner of four major Southeastern electric utilities, was responsible for the design and construction of the facility, while the portion of output of Stanton A it owns has been purchased by OUC, KUA and FMPA. OUC owns almost one-third of the output. The general manager and CEO of OUC, Bob Haven, said that OUC will retain the ability to purchase more than what it purchases currently. "This additional capacity will help OUC maintain the reliability our customers expect."OUC, a municipally owned utility for Orlando, is the second-largest municipal electric utility in the state of Florida, with a customer base of 190,000. FMPA, owned by 29 municipal electric utilities, retains power generation and furnishes services for municipal utilities. KUA provides electric, water and Internet services to 61,000 customers spread across five counties in Central Florida.
