LCG, June 23, 2025--The Governor of New York today directed the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to develop and construct an advanced nuclear power plant in upstate New York to deliver zero-emission power that supports a reliable and affordable electric grid. NYPA will lead the effort to develop at least one new nuclear energy facility with a combined capacity of at least one gigawatt (GW) of electricity, either alone or in partnership with private entities. The directive builds on the Governor’s 2025 State of the State to develop nuclear energy plans in New York.

Power Plant Seen in Indian State
LCG, Jan. 27, 2004--Six months after legal reforms governing the power sector were instituted in India, the country's Reliance Industries has announced it is considering construction of a 3,500-megawatt power plant.One of the main features of the act that appears to have prompted the plans for the state of Uttar Pradesh is the status it gives to state electricity boards, which have shown difficulty in returning dues owed to private investors, including Enron in the early 1990s. The managing director of Reliance Industries, Anil Ambani, said, "We would not have made this investment if we were not confident that Uttar Pradesh is committed in a durable fashion to a genuine reform of its power sector."Uttar Pradesh, in northern India, has over 40,000 villages that do not have electricity. Theft and poor efficiency are serious problems in areas that do have power supplies.
