LCG, April 24, 2025--Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) announced yesterday an agreement with Calpine Corporation (Calpine) to transport and permanently store up to 2 million metric tons per annum (MTA) of CO2 from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center, a natural gas-fired facility located near Houston, Texas. This is part of Calpine’s Baytown Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project that is designed to add CCS for the facility’s CO2 emissions. The Calpine facility could then provide a 24/7 supply of low-carbon electricity to the Texas grid plus steam to nearby industrial facilities.

Davis-Besse Receives Approval for Restart
LCG, Mar. 8, 2004--The Davis-Besse nuclear power plant, situated beside Lake Erie near Toledo, Ohio, may be restarted by FirstEnergy Corp. following an extended shutdown during which the plant's reactor lid was replaced.The Nuclear Regulatory Commission gave notification of its approval of the restart today, following review of FirstEnergy's confirmation that it would agree to certain conditions for operation of and safety procedures at the facility. According to statements by regulatory officials at a meeting last month, progress had been made at Davis-Besse since an inspection in December reportedly turned up a number of items raising concern.During the year-long shutdown, FirstEnergy, which was criticized for weaknesses in its management and safety culture, purchased replacement power at a cost of $600 million.
